SBYL Cup Semi‑Final
Saturday, 10.30 KO – Colaiste Feirste
Carniny 2013 Amateurs faced a Doyle FC side they have historically struggled against — a team who could comfortably compete several leagues higher. Despite the scoreline, the squad showed real character, particularly in the opening half.
Carniny began the match composed and organised, matching Doyle stride for stride. An early defensive mistake allowed Doyle to take the lead, but Carniny responded positively.
A handball on the edge of the box presented an opportunity, and Jake Lowry delivered a superb free‑kick to bring the game level.
Further moments of miscommunication at the back proved costly, with Doyle capitalising to take a 3–1 lead into half‑time. Despite this, Carniny remained competitive and very much in the contest.
The second half saw Carniny lose some of their shape and composure. An early defensive error gifted Doyle another goal, and from that point the pressure intensified. Carniny still produced attacking moments — including a penalty and several strong efforts on goal — but the defence endured a relentless workload throughout the half.
