Carniny Amateur U10 6-1 Tullycarnet
SBYL Cup Semi Final - Saturday
Carniny Amateurs 2014s eased into the final of the South Belfast Youth League Cup with an impressive 6-1 win over league leaders Tullycarnet. Having drawn and narrowly lost in their previous two meetings this season, Carniny knew they faced a tough test and with Tullycarnet having a strong wind behind them in the first half, defenders Mark and Caleb and James, just in front of them in midfield, had to work very hard to protect keeper Zayn. Tullycarnet went ahead midway through the half with a powerful, wind-assisted free kick which gave Zayn no chance. But Carniny rallied and drew level when Jasper drove into the penalty area and found the bottom corner of the net with a great strike. Jasper was again involved in Carniny's second goal when his shot was well saved by the Tullycarnet keeper, but Marley was alert to follow up to slot home the rebound. Having battled so hard against the elements, Carniny were confident with the wind at their backs in the second period with Sonny introduced in place of Marley on the right wing. Marley was introduced again later in the half with devastating effect as he scored four more times - with assists from Mark and James - to take his tally for the day to five.
The coaches were delighted with how the boys responded to going behind in very testing weather conditions. Carniny now look forward to a cup final against Whitehead Eagles.
