Carniny U18 4-0 Wellington Rec

In their final game of the season Carniny put in probably their best performance of the season since winning the Cup Final on New Year’s Day to defeat Larne side Wellington Rec at Mallusk Playing Fields, Belfast. Carniny settled first and welcomed back goalkeeper Luke Elliott from injury and it was obvious in the early stages how much they have missed him this season with a couple good saves. The back four of McAtamney, Martin, Logan and Bell were solid whilst Duddy and Dael dominated the midfield and Pescaru and Foster were dangerous down the flanks. In attack White and Byrne were lively

causing the Larne side problems. In the 23RD minute White opened the scoring swivelling on the edge of the 18-yard box to fire in a shot and put his side one up. In the 26th minute Pescaru made it 2-0 for the Carniny ‘reds’ tapping home a cross at the back post and on the 28th minute Byrne made it 3-0 finishing off a good passing move to give his side a commanding 3-0 half time lead. The second half saw Carniny make a couple of changes with Wright and Scullion turning up the heat on ‘Rec’ making several more chances. Wellington had a couple more chances bravely saved by Elliott in Carniny’s goal before on the hour Byrne scored the goal of the game making it 4 -0 for Carniny flicking the ball over the opposition keepers head with a neat back heal! A good all-round performance for Carniny and well done to the boys who finished a good season having earned some silverware along the way. Some of these players will progress into senior football this incoming season and the club wishes them every success in their next step up the football ladder whilst the rest will return to underage football for another season.
