The opening period was evenly contested, with Carniny looking dangerous through well‑timed balls in behind for their forward line, while the defence dealt confidently with Barn’s attacks at the other end. The breakthrough arrived on 27 minutes when Jake Armstrong headed the ball forward for Brandon Turner, allowing Harley Farenden to get a shot away which was blocked. Turner’s follow‑up was saved, but Dean Wright reacted quickest inside the six‑yard box to force the ball home for 1–0.
Just four minutes later Armstrong turned possession over in his own half and lifted a clever ball forward to Wright, who raced into the box and was bundled over. The referee pointed to the spot, and Mark Lowry stepped up to calmly convert, giving Carniny a 2–0 lead.
Carniny created further chances before the break but they weren't converted and went in two goals to the good at half‑time.
The visitors started the second half on the front foot, pressing Barn high and forcing mistakes. A loose ball out from the back was intercepted by Lowry, who fed Matthew McComb. He laid it off perfectly for Wright to slot past the keeper for his second of the game and Carniny’s third.
Carniny’s fourth arrived after excellent work down the right from Carson Hume, who drove forward and delivered a superb cross to the far post. Turner headed goalward, and Wright nodded the ball back into his path for Turner to rifle home.
With Carniny having ten men on the pitch due to injury, Barn pulled one back after a goalmouth scramble, and Ross McKillop was called into action late on to make an important save, but Carniny saw out the game professionally to secure a 4–1 win and a place in the next round.
A strong team performance, four well‑worked goals, and progression in the Junior Shield — an excellent afternoon for Carniny.
