There was little between the sides in the first period, with both teams enjoying good spells of possession. Christopher Montgomery tested Ross McKillop with a strike from outside the box, but the Carniny keeper held well. At the other end, Carniny forced a series of corners, and from the fourth of them Adam Mooney saw his header cleared off the line by Adam Waterson. Five minutes before the break, the First Division side opened the scoring. Leon Graham playing on the shoulder of the last defender, latched onto an Adam Millar through ball, and finished low past McKillop from the right side of the box.
Carniny were level just three minutes after the restart. They turned over possession from a Clough throw‑in, with Sean Byrne feeding Dean Wright, who drove down the right flank, cut inside, and finished superbly into the far corner. Moments later Byrne had a good chance at the near post, but his effort was well saved. Carniny then took the lead. A Jay Peacock pass straight through the middle released Mooney, who raced clear and slotted home confidently. Clough thought they had equalised when the ball hit the net from a free‑kick, but it was ruled out for a foul on McKillop in the process.
The visitors pushed hard to get back into the game, and McKillop produced an excellent save to deny Graham again in the final 20 minutes. Carniny absorbed the pressure well, defending strongly while still looking dangerous on the break — and it was from a counter that they sealed the win. Turning over possession in their own half, Jake Armstrong drove forward down the left and played in Peacock, who finished to make it 3–1 on 90 minutes.
A lengthy period of injury time followed, but Carniny held firm to protect their two‑goal advantage and book their place in the third round.
