Carniny Seniors flew out of the blocks, piling the pressure on Sixmile from the first whistle. The breakthrough came in the 8th minute — Aaron Johnston’s shot was blocked, but he stayed alert, squaring for Jay Peacock to smash home from close range.
Sixmile tried to hit back on the break, but Carniny kept coming. When Johnston was chopped down in the box, the visitors had a golden chance from the spot — only for the Sixmile keeper to pull off a superb save to deny Dean Wright. But Wright wasn’t to be kept quiet for long. Just three minutes later, he latched onto a pinpoint pass from Matthew McComb, outpaced the last defender, and buried a low drive past the keeper to double the lead. Moments before the break, Sixmile’s hopes took another hit as they were reduced to ten men after a second yellow card.
The home side weren’t done yet. Early in the second half, a ball over the top caught Carniny out and Sixmile pulled one back. Fired up, they pushed for an equaliser — but that left space for Carniny to strike again. Wright tore down the left, whipped in a perfect cross, and Kai Kirk slid in at the back post to make it 3-1.
From there, the floodgates opened. Ten minutes later, Peacock pounced on a low ball from Kirk to grab his second. Minutes after that, Johnston was fouled again in the box — Peacock’s penalty was saved, but Adrian Dubyna reacted quickest to hammer home the rebound.
That sealed a commanding 5-1 win and sent Carniny into the second round, where they’ll face Harryville Homers on Friday.
