Swifts earned a victory with what could not be considered an overall true reflection on the game as Carniny capitulated in the final 20 minutes conceding 3 goals to earn the home side all three points. Carniny fielded a very young side containing five players from their under 19 side and they could be proud at how they competed with keeper Monaghan dominating , full backs Cameron Waring and John Costello outstanding and Adam Mairs causing problems in attack. A soft free kick conceded after 25 minutes was launched into the Carniny penalty area and was ushered into the net by a Swifts striker.
The second period saw Carniny continue their good form of the first with Hanna, McCann and Waring making probing runs into the home sides defence but alas to no success. On 70 minutes Swifts made it 2-0 with a suspiciously offside goal and make Amateurs job all the more difficult. The visitors continued to compete with David Chesney working hard to break through but to no avail. Carniny threw all into attack but two late goals following errors in the Carniny defence put a gloss on the home sides victory. Carniny can still be positive with so many good young players coming through with Caolan Hart and Gary Monaghan looking much older than their years.
