IMPRESSIVE COMEBACK FROM U14s TO TAKE THE POINTS

Site Admin2 Mar - 19:51

The U14s had to come back from 3-0 down to take a 4-3 win on Sunday

In a brilliant comeback against Belfast Celtic Cubs the under 14s came from 3-0 down to win 4-3 on Sunday morning. The boys got off to a good start and should have taken the lead when a ball across the box came to Harry who hit a great shot which struck the inside of the post and flew across the goal. Carniny were playing some good passing football but gradually the stronger Celtic midfield began to take control. The Celtic number 10 was creating problems down the Carniny right and he created the first goal with a dribble along the by-line which he cut back and the Celtic number 8 fired home. Celtic extended their lead from a corner when their centre forward headed home to make it 2-0 at half time.

Celtic increased their lead when a mix-up at the back allowed their forward to pass the ball into an empty net. There seemed to be no way back for Carniny but Jake and Brandon up front had the pace to trouble the Celtic defence and when Brandon was put through on goal by a great pass from Jake he ran on and slotted past the keeper. This seemed to raise Carniny's confidence and they pressed Celtic all over the pitch. The second goal came from a great corner by Jake. The ball went over the heads of everyone at the near post and Luke C was waiting at the back post to stick the ball in the net. The equaliser came from Jake whose pace took him clear of the opposition defenders and he slotted past the keeper. Carniny were now on top and full of confidence. The winner came again from one of Jake’s corners. The Celtic keeper appeared to have the ball in his hands but he fumbled the ball and it dropped to Brandon who poked it home from close range. This was a superb comeback performance by all the boys with Robbie and Ollie solid in defence and Luke M, Joshua and Luke C battling in midfield.

Player of the match has to go to Brandon for his two goals and tireless running.
