The under 14 team had a convincing win against Bangor Swifts on Saturday morning at Ballysillan leisure centre. Carniny had a stronger team available due to the mid-term break and some players not having rugby commitments. The boys got off to a great start and were two goals up within ten minutes with goals from Brandon and Jake. The pace of the Carniny forwards was causing problems for the Bangor defence time and again and there should have been more goals scored but the chances were wasted when shots went wide or straight at the keeper. Bangor began to come into the game and had several corners in quick succession. It was from a corner that they pulled a goal back when Carniny failed to clear properly. The game was more evenly balanced now and both teams had chances to score but it remained 2-1 to Carniny at half time.
The second half began with both teams battling hard in midfield where Robbie, Luke C and John were putting in a great shift to win the ball and create chances. It was Bangor however who got the next goal when their forward ran on to a through ball and slotted past Vlad. This could have been a blow to the Carniny confidence but the boys took the lead again within seconds of the restart. The Bangor keeper tried to clear a pass back but Jake had run in to close him down and the clearance rebounded off him and into the Bangor net to make it 3-2. This lifted Carniny and they dominated the game for the remainder of the half. Ben and PK were keeping it tight at the back. Ollie and Rhys were winning tackles against their wingers. The pressure paid off when Jake scored again from a great run and shot. The fifth goal came from a strong run down the right wing by Andrew and a cross into the box where Jake was on the spot to fire into the roof of the net to make it 5-2. This was a strong performance by the team and a well-deserved win following a number of defeats.
