The Under 14s lost 4-2 to Newington on Saturday morning at the Valley Leisure Centre. The boys got off to a terrible start and conceded twice in the opening ten minutes. Poor clearances from the defence led to the goals. Under pressure, the boys failed to clear from corners and Newington were able to score from inside the penalty area. Gradually the boys began to settle and play some passes but Newington were physically stronger in midfield and were winning the ball back easily. A third goal followed midway through the half and Carniny's heads went down. Carniny did have a few chances through Jake’s running up front and it was from a good run and shot that he scored a goal to give the team hope.
The second half was a different game with Carniny battling back through Robbie in midfield who ran tirelessly all day. Gradually the game began to swing to Carniny and they thought they had a second goal when PK headed home from close range but it was ruled offside. The second goal did come however when Newington failed to clear a corner and Robbie fired home from inside the six-yard area. Jake had a great chance to score from a free kick on the edge of the box but his effort went over the bar. Carniny were pushing hard for an equalizer but unfortunately, a poor clearance from Vlad fell to a Newington midfielder whose shot from twenty yards flew high into the net giving the keeper no chance. This was a game that Carniny should have been able to get something from but the boys just came up short.
