Carniny U14 2-4 Clonduff FC
SBYL – Avoniel LC – Saturday 18th
The under 14s started the new year with a 4-1 defeat to Clonduff FC on Saturday morning at Avoniel leisure centre. The team started well and were matching Clonduff across the pitch. They were also creating chances through Brandon who chased every ball up front. Gradually Clonduff began to take control and forced several corners which could have produced an opening goal if someone had been on the end of them. It was Carniny who took the lead however when Brandon broke down the right wing. He played a great cross into the box and Harry volleyed into the net from twelve yards out. Carniny now looked the better team and played some good football but a mistake at the back allowed Clonduff to equalise and the half ended 1-1. Carniny were slow to start in the second half and Clonduff began to dominate possession. They took the lead from a through ball which their forward slotted past Vlad. A third followed soon after and Carniny heads went down. The boys did keep battling to the end and Robbie had a great chance to pull a goal back when he rounded the keeper, but he slipped and fell, and the chance was lost. PK who had a good game in defence hit the bar with a long-range effort. He also had a strong run through the Clonduff defence but with only the keeper to beat he shot straight at him and the ball was cleared. It wasn’t going to be Carniny’s day and Clonduff sealed the win with a fourth goal late on.
