Carniny under 14s beat Belfast Celtic Cubs 4-3 at Crumlin Leisure Centre last night. Carniny got off to a good start and put lots of pressure on the Cubs defence. Time after time they created great chances to score but squandered them all. Several players were guilty of missing great chances and the boys paid the price. Cubs broke and with their first effort on goal they scored. Carniny came back at them again with Robbie and John winning the ball in midfield and making passes to Brandon, Jake and Harry up front. A great run and cross by Jake created an easy tap-in for Harry to make it 1-1. Robbie put Carniny ahead with a great shot from the edge of the box to make it 2-1 at half time.
Carniny continued to dominate in the second half and were again creating chances. Harry chipped the keeper from the left hand side of the box to make it 3-1 and Carniny were well on top. An error kicking out by Vlad in nets let Cubs back into the game and the match became much closer. Another run and cross by Jake from wide on the right flew high into the roof of the net to make it 4-2. With five minutes to go Cubs pulled another goal back from a well-struck free kick which went through the wall and beat Vlad at the near post. This made it a tense end to the game but Carniny held on to win in a game where they should have been out of sight in the first half.
