The Under 14s lost 5-2 to Magherafelt Sky Blues at Meadowbank Stadium on Friday night. The boys had to play their second match in three days but after a good win against Belfast Celtic on Wednesday night it was a much changed side that faced Magherafelt. Carniny went a goal down early on and never really recovered from that. With five changes from Wednesday night the team looked hesitant and lacking confidence. Magherafelt went further ahead from a penalty. Vlad made a great save but unfortunately the ball rebounded to the striker and he only had to tap it into the empty net to make it 2-0 at half time.

The boys had been warned about getting a good start to the second half but they went three down when a cross came into the box from the left wing and it wasn’t cleared leaving the Magherafelt striker with an easy finish. At the other end Carniny were creating chances and Brandon and Luke M were unlucky with shots straight at the keeper. Finally Brandon was able to put away a low effort past the keeper following a pass into the box from Harley to make it 3-1. Carniny pressed for a second goal but it was Magherafelt who scored twice more following slack defending. The best goal of the goal, however, came from Luke M who picked the ball up at the half way and beat the right full back. He cut into the box and beat the defender before slotting home past the keeper. This brought Carniny the only spell of dominance in the game with ten minutes to go but it was too little too late and the game ended 5-2 to Magherafelt.
