Carniny Under 14s secured their second win of the season against Groomsport on Sunday morning at Mallusk. The boys got off to a good start with some neat passing football in midfield. Luke M almost scored with a long range volley which nearly caught the Groomsport keeper out but he managed to parry the effort way. Ben and PK were tackling strongly at the centre of the defence. Shortly afterwards Robbie did give Carniny the lead with a well struck effort from outside the box which gave the keeper no chance. Robbie added a second soon after when he struck a low shot past the keeper following a strong run into the box. Carniny were well on top at this stage but Groomsport pulled one back just before half time when they headed home from a corner following slack marking.

Groomsport started strongly in the second half and Carniny looked nervy. The momentum of the game had shifted and it looked only a matter of time before Groomsport scored. Vlad pulled off several good saves to keep the away team out. Carniny defending was not as assured as in the first half and on several occasions the ball was needlessly hacked away when calmer heads would have kept possession. It was Carniny however who scored next when Jake tucked away a neat effort following good build up play down the left. Andrew added a fourth goal from wide on the right when his shot flew high into the roof of the net giving the Groomsport keeper no chance. A good performance overall from Carniny but it was a tighter game at times than it should have been.
