Our under 14 team played Bloomfield Youth at Grove playing fields on Sunday morning and were narrowly beaten 3-2 in a closely contested match. Bloomfield started better and had Carniny under pressure from good passing play but it was from a free kick that Bloomfield took the lead. A cross into the box was flicked on by a Bloomfield player and the flight of the ball deceived Vlad in nets to open the scoring. Bloomfield were the stronger side at this point and extended their lead soon after when the defence failed to close down and a hopeful shot beat the keeper. Carniny however did not give up and kept battling. They had several great chances to pull a goal back including a close range header from Robbie which flew across goal. They were unable to score from any of the chances and the half time score was 2-0.
The second half started in a similar way with Bloomfield pressure but Carniny played some good passing football to create chances of their own. They got a corner from a period of pressure and Luke put in a great cross which found Ben unmarked in the six yard area and he neatly slotted home. Bloomfield however restored their two goal lead soon after when the Carniny defence failed to clear a corner and the Bloomfield forward scored with a shot from inside the box. Carniny kept their heads up and continued to fight with Robbie setting a great example of work rate up front and in midfield. Callum came on in midfield and Zach moved up front and they combined for Zach to score from a great shot from just outside the penalty area to make it 3-2. It looked as if Carniny might grab an equaliser when Robbie was through on goal but his left-footed shot from the edge of the box was brilliantly tipped away by the Bloomfield keeper. The final score was 3-2 to Bloomfield in an entertaining game which could have gone either way.
