Match Report: Carniny U15s vs Newhill
Carniny Under 15s kicked off their season this morning with a spirited performance against Newhill, despite a frustrating final scoreline.
The Reds started brightly, playing some excellent football from back to front. Harry and Robbie were a constant threat up front, causing problems for the Newhill defence. Carniny dominated early possession and earned several corners, but couldn’t convert their chances. Against the run of play, Newhill took the lead after 25 minutes when a high free kick bounced over the goalkeeper and into the net. Misfortune struck again shortly after, as a speculative cross deceived the keeper and crept in at the far post, leaving Carniny 2-0 down at the break.
The second half saw a determined response. Robbie Montgomery sparked the comeback, racing through to slot low past the keeper. Just five minutes later, he latched onto a superb through ball from Andrew and coolly finished to level the score at 2-2. Carniny were in full control, and Robbie completed his hat-trick with a composed finish following some slick build-up play.
However, Newhill found an equaliser from another free kick that again bounced over the keeper. In the dying moments, they snatched a winner with a controversial goal that appeared offside, sneaking in at the near post.
⚽ Final Score: Carniny U15s 3 – 4 Newhill
Despite the result, Carniny can take pride in a strong team performance. Man of the Match went to Robbie Montgomery, whose tireless work rate and clinical finishing earned him a well-deserved hat-trick.
