The boys put in a determined performance despite the scoreline, battling hard against a strong Sandy Row side.

The first half was a tight, competitive affair with very few clear chances for either team. Carniny worked tirelessly in midfield, with Conor putting in a superb shift, winning loose balls and breaking up play, while Cailen looked lively whenever Carniny moved forward.

Early in the second half, Carniny nearly made the breakthrough when Ollie’s pressing created the first real chance, putting the Sandy Row defence under serious pressure. Shortly afterwards, Sandy Row were awarded a free kick, quickly releasing their forwards who combined well before finishing calmly to open the scoring.

Carniny felt unlucky not to receive a penalty during a promising attack, and moments later came even closer when Zack struck a superb free kick that had the keeper beaten, only to see it crash off the crossbar.

Sandy Row then showed their quality. A long ball over the top allowed their forward to break through and lob Reuben for the second. With momentum now on their side, Sandy Row added a third shortly after.

Despite the setback, Carniny kept battling to the end. In the final moment of the game, Sandy Row won another free kick and Reuben produced a brave stop with his face to deny them again on the last kick.

Sandy Row’s strength from the bench and quality in the second half ultimately made the difference, but Carniny can be proud of the effort shown throughout. With only 11 players available, the team worked tirelessly and never gave up, putting in a solid shift from start to finish.

Man of the match today was Conor, fearless in the tackle, relentless in winning the ball back, and bringing huge energy to the team all game.

Heads up, boys — plenty of positives from this.
