Carniny Youth Under 11's took on Ardoyne YC at Mallusk this morning in their last league game of the season, seeking retribution after feeling hard done by their cup semi-final exit to Ardoyne last month.
With conditions not great for either side, a quite physical game ensued, with Carniny coming out on top. Building momentum with Billy on the left and Marley on the right the chances followed. Isaac, a leader at the back alongside Connor today, Jake W, battling hard as LWB, with Karter doing excellent in a holding role; It was Isaac who tidied up again on the right and played a ball down the line for Marley, who looked beaten but showed an amazing burst of pace to glide past his man, bear down on goal and at the 2nd attempt coolly place it past the keeper. 1-0. Subs Nathaniel and Jackson had a really good impact today; Jackson always so positive, showing good feet, caused havoc on the edge of the area and Nathaniel battled really well on the left. Getting in a great position in the box he fired just over from Marley's cross, but had accidentally handled. A Karter through ball sent Jackson sprinting, Marley then taking over on the edge of the area , got it onto his right foot and made it look easy as he slotted home to make it 2:0 HT.
Carniny continued their positive football in the 2nd, always looking to play forward and switch to Harlow or Marley on right, however like the 1st half, found it tough clearing their lines at times, and invited unnecessary pressure. Further chances though, as Billy couldn't control a volleyed shot in the area and blazed over from another Marley cross. Harlow tested the keeper with a freekick who smothered it well. Natan, up front mostly today in Alex's absence, relentlessly tried to find a way through and eventually got on the end of another through ball. 1on1 with the keeper, Natan trying to take him on, was tackled strongly by the keeper though. Outdone by a few bouncing balls Connor and Isaac coped well with the pressure, as Ardoyne could only test Jake R from range, who was well up to it.
Really good desire and team effort all round today and great goals by Marley, to secure a 3rd place league finish; a win and cleansheet a nice way to wind up the season.
MOTM - Isaac; led by example today in a commanding performance, assist.
