Carniny Youth v Ardoyne YC
Carniny Youth U11's were up against Ardoyne in their league Cup semi-final this morning at Coláiste Feirste.
A nervy start saw both sides working very hard to keep the ball but Ardoyne held their width well and posed problems. Their right winger using pace and power on the outside drove through on goal, and hit it near post; very contentious goal decision as Carniny players were adamant the ball went through the loose side netting. Shaking it off, the wee reds found it difficult to find an opening or pick that final pass but got Harlow down the right a few times, the cross not finding a teammate, while Alex blazed over a volley after excellent work from Marley. However, in almost a carbon copy of the first goal, Ardoyne got through again, Jake beaten at the near post, again claims of side netting.
0-2 HT.
Carniny pushed and started winning their individual battles. Jake W and Billy were strong and calm when needed. Substitute Nathaniel showed great fight in the middle and it was his through ball to put Alex in, who coolly placed it past the onrushing keeper. 1-2 Game on.
Harlow was unlucky as he placed a close-range free-kick towards top corner only for the keeper to brilliantly push it around post. Billy got his head onto Connor's corner and the loose ball was finally claimed by the keeper. Alex through again, w adjudged to be offside; didnt happen today. Ardoyne did have a headed goal from a corner ruled out due to pushing/pulling and in the end 'managed' the remaining time to see out the win. Carniny, although not at their best today, deserved more. Good effort from all the boys. 1:2 FT
MOTM: Jake W, good mentality/resilience after tough 1st half, showed really good strength and fight to keep it solid in 2nd.
