Penalty shootout heartache for wee reds.

The 2016s had their first taste of cup football today with a fantastic game at the Norman Whiteside Arena. Ards started the game the better of the two sides and took an early lead 4 minutes in. The wee reds finally found their way and equalised soon after. Great distribution from Fletcher at the back into midfield and great play from Oisín assisted Finn who provided the finish to level the game.

With the scores level at the break the wee reds had the upper hand with Matt and Judah defending well to keep the team well organised. Carniny then took the lead 5 minutes into the second half when Jacob passed a ball out to Harvey on the wing who cut it back from the byline for Finn to score his second of the game. Ards then equalised soon after again with a great goal to give Fletcher no chance. The 2016s then pushed for a third goal with Ollie, Jacob and Harvey working extremely hard in midfield and it payed off 5 minutes from time when Kai scored a beautiful chip 15 yards out to put the lads ahead.

Credit to Ards who equalised with 2 minutes remaining to send the game to penalties. Unfortunately for the wee reds, Ards came out on top in the shootout. Well done to the 5 lads who stepped up to take penalties alongside Fletcher in goal, not an easy task in front of the crowd.
