MATCH REPORT

Carniny U9 2-6 Willowbank

SBYL – Willowbank

After an even first couple of minutes, Willowbank took control of the game and were 4-0 up at halftime. The 2nd half was a different game with the reds working much harder and began to play football. Noah scored with an excellent top corner finish after Adam floated in a free kick to the edge of the box. Noah got a second a few minutes later after a defensive mix up from a corner. The reds continued to press and a few chances to get a third but Willowbank ended the comeback with a headed goal from a corner and scored again with the last kick of the game. Shout out to keeper Kai who pulled off some excellent saves to keep us in the game.

Carniny U10 5-1 Shankhill Juniors

SBYL – Blyfield

This Saturday morning saw the start of our campaign in a higher league. The lads knew they would be facing tough opponents today, and it showed with a fairly even beginning to the game. Our first goal came from Gary at RB with a screaming shot from inside his own half. Shankill started putting on the pressure, but with Gary & Isaac holding solid in defence & some great closing down from our attacking players we keep the scoreline going into HT. The second half began with some proper pressure from Shankill & Jake our GK was put to work. Having already made a couple of saves in the first half he pulled out all the stops & tipped a well hit free kick over the crossbar. This spurred us on, with Harlow pulling the strings, supported by Connor, Carter & Nathaniel on the wings & Billy, or Alex up top. Nathaniel had a well hit shot rebound to Billy to get our second. This was quickly followed by solid goal from Alex (Gary assist) Connor played well from the left & tried to get on the scoresheet, but the Shankill GK did well to save it, Alex getting his second from the follow up. Shankill did pull a goal back, but this didn’t stop our wee reds who added a 5th from a fantastic header by Billy from a well struck Harlow corner.

Carniny U10 Colts 1-0 Glentoran Colts

SBYL – Ballysillan

The Colts took on Glentoran Colts on Friday evening on a rainy night at Ballysillian. Glentoran started brightly, putting us under considerable pressure and even hitting the post at one point. However, the Colts worked hard to get a foot in the game as we created several chances late in the first half. The goal came from a well taken corner by Jasper for James to slam home from the middle of the goal just before half time. The Colts created several more chances in the second half and with solid defence and one superb single handed save from Zayn, controlled the later stages of the game to finish as 1-0 winners. Great spirit and effort from everyone on the night to get a fully deserved win against a good side.

Carniny U11 1-2 Abbey Villa Colts

SBYL – Girdwood

Boys were all over abbey villa in the first 15 minutes but not able to get a good strike at goal. Defence and the middle of the pitch we closed down and won the ball repeatedly, bossed it.

Straight after half time abbey villa got a breakaway goal and then a soft penalty seen them 2-0 up. We came back strong and a goal from Jack Cochrane seen us gain a bit more confidence but despite more pressure we just couldn’t get the ball in the net a second time. Frustrating today as we really did play the better football today, just didn’t keep our structure at times. Standout today was Conor and Danny at the back, Conlan and Liam in the middle, but Jamie Bristow was our man of the match today.

Carniny U13 0-3 Carrick Rangers

SBYL – Taylors Avenue

Carniny under 13s lost 3-0 to Carrick Rangers Academy at Taylors Avenue 3G on Friday evening. It was terrible night for a youth match with strong winds and heavy rain. The boys fell behind early on when there was indecision in defence allowing the Carrick forward to run on to a bouncing ball and lob the keeper. The boys responded well and the defence was standing strong against good attacking play from Carrick. The home team were able to extend their lead when Carniny failed to make a tackle and the Carrick winger cut in and slotted home from the edge of the eighteen-yard area to make it 2-0 at half time. Carniny started well in the second half and were putting more pressure on the Carrick defence with strong forward runs by PK and Robbie. John and Ben kept it tight in the centre of defence and Rhys and Andrew at full back were giving the Carrick wingers no space. Luke in midfield was making good use of the ball for through passes but no clear-cut chances appeared. Carrick went three up when a long ball bounced in the eighteen-yard area and deceived Jamie in goals. The ball bounced over him and fell to a Carrick forward who slotted home. Carniny kept pressing for a goal and Luke had a great strike tipped past the post by the Carrick keeper. Despite the effort by everyone in the team Carrick were the deserved winners.

Carniny U15 5-1 Albert Foundry

SBYL

Carniny started strong and had started well when Albert foundry won a questionable free kick and scored from it, but it didn’t take long for Carniny to bounce back when Duddy cut in on to his left foot and slotted the ball into the near post. Carniny quickly slipped into gear and Ewart swung a ball in and it was well controlled by Black and then smashed home. After the half time break Orr received the ball with his back to goal and with a fantastic turn and run, put it through the keepers’ legs. 10 mins later Black won a free kick on the edge of the box and confidently stepped up and but the ball top left with a stunning strike. Barr, who had a fantastic game, floated a ball over the top which Black took down and shot into the back of the net. It could only have got better when Duddy squared the ball across the six-yard box

and Ewart scored, but it was controversially disallowed for an offside against Ewart. Absolutely great performance from all 15 players today.

Carniny U17 2-4 St Lukes

SBYL

A very tough game against a flying St Lukes saw the 2007s not play anything like our best as St Lukes took a 3-0 lead at halftime. The second half was better, and we created a few chances and pulled back 2 goals through Nellins. But it was not enough, and St Lukes scored again 4-2 loss.
