Aquinas Star 0–1 Carniny U16s
Carniny U16s opened their league campaign with a deserved 1–0 victory over a big, physical Aquinas side at Strangford Avenue Playing Fields.

The Reds made the perfect start, taking the lead inside two minutes. Sharp passing down the left released Alfie, who threaded a superb ball through for Jaydn. He stayed composed and fired high into the net for what proved to be the only goal of the game.

Aquinas grew into the contest, with their number 9 posing a few problems, but Carniny’s defence stood firm. Max, Andrew, Ben and Ollie were excellent throughout, while Vlad dealt calmly with anything that broke through.

Carniny created further chances before the break but couldn’t extend their lead.

The second half saw Carniny take control. Alfie, Sam H and Sam M dominated midfield, breaking up play and keeping Aquinas at arm’s length. The back four continued to handle any threats comfortably, although Carniny couldn’t find the finishing touch to put the game beyond doubt.

Despite missed opportunities, the Reds managed the game well and saw it out without much trouble — a strong response after last week’s disappointment.

Best for Carniny: Jaydn up front; Alfie and the two Sams in midfield; the entire back four.
