Carniny U16s 2–1 Glenavy
Showgrounds – Rare Home Fixture
Carniny U16s made the most of a rare home outing at the Showgrounds, producing one of their best performances of the season to defeat league leaders Glenavy in a deserved 2–1 victory.
From the first whistle, the Wee Reds were sharp, confident, and creative. Their early play carved out several chances, and although a few went begging, the intent and energy only fuelled Carniny further. The breakthrough arrived through Connaire Scullion, who showed brilliant awareness to lift an excellent lob over the advancing keeper for 1–0.
Carniny continued to dominate the ball, but Glenavy struck back against the run of play with a well‑hit effort from outside the box. The equaliser could have knocked the boys off their stride, but instead it sparked another spell of composed, attacking football.
That pressure paid off when Curtis McDowell finished a flowing move with a well‑taken goal to restore Carniny’s lead. As the game entered the final minutes, Glenavy pushed hard, but the Wee Reds showed real grit, organisation, and togetherness to see the match out.
Every player contributed to a superb team performance — disciplined, brave, and full of quality from start to finish.
