Match Report: Carniny 3–2 Newtownabbey Athletic
Carniny showed great character to claim a hard-fought 3–2 victory over Newtonabbey Athletic in difficult windy and rainy conditions. All three Carniny goals came in an impressive first-half display, where the hosts played some excellent football.
The opener came from Tiernan, who caught the goalkeeper off guard with a well-struck effort from range. Carniny continued to dominate and doubled their lead when Curtis McDowell showed composure to beat the keeper one-on-one. McDowell then added his second of the half, once again rounding the goalkeeper to make it 3–0 before the break.
Newtonabbey pulled a goal back early in the second half and pushed hard late on, scoring again to set up a tense finish. However, Carniny dug deep, battling for each other and defending resolutely to see out a deserved win.
It was a strong team performance, with some great football played—particularly in the first half—and a determined, committed display throughout to secure all three points.
