U14s AT SCOTLAND CUP AYR

Carniny under 14s spent last weekend competing in the ‘Land O’ Burns Football Tournament’ also known as the Scotland Cup held in Ayrshire, Scotland.

The Ballymena reds played a total of five games of 25 minutes each way over Saturday and Sunday with the first days group games deciding what tournament the team would progress to.

CARNINY AMATEUR & YOUTH FC 2-2 CRAIGIE COLTS
In the fiNrst group game the Mid Antrim kingpins were up against last seasons winners Cragie Colts and within fifteen minutes the reds were were two up. Adam Kennedy converted a penalty earned by Shevlin whilst Shevlin made it two himself just before half time. Adam Mairs played well as did Calum McGall but the second half was the opposite of the first and basic mistakes allowed Colts in to draw level.

CARNINY AMATEUR & YOUTH FC 2-0 LARKHALL UTD
This was the game that saw Carniny spring into life with Tyrone Balmer in particular outstanding. Connor Doherty clipped the ball over the advancing keeper to open the scoring before a 25 yard shot from Kennedy doubled the scoring.

CARNINY AMATEUR & YOUTH 8-1 HILLINGTON
This was a complete wipeout with Carniny the best side by far as goals from Miller, McNeill, Harte, Rowe, Mairs and Shevlin helped secure top spot in their group. Best for the Ballymena reds was Kennedy, Harte and Peoples.

SEMI FINAL
CARNINY AMATEUR & YOUTH FC 4-0 HILLWOOD

Carniny played very well with Miller netting twice and Rowe once. All the players were really on a high and determined to get a result which they succedded in doing to reach their first final of the season. Scorers for Carniny were Miller and Rowe.

FINAL
CARNINY AMATEUR & YOUYH FC 0 – 3 MOORLANDS

Carniny just ran out of steam in this their final game of the tournament although they were facing one of the best youth set ups in Scotland if not Britain. Carniny battled and Marquess in goal was outstanding with save after save. Overall a good weekend and an excellent way of preparing a teams players for the new season. A lot of new friendships were forged with Carniny invited to other events in Scotland in the near future.
