After a free week, the Under 11s took on Ballyclare Comrades at Coláiste Feirste on Friday night in only their third league game this season. A tightly contested opening with both teams battling hard. Ballyclare opening the scoring by beating us for pace on the right flank and firing home well. The reds kept fighting though, having to defend well as Ballyclare moved the ball quick. Connor and Marley tried to pick a pass and Harlow brought he energy on the right and defended when he needed to. Applying our own pressure we forced a few corners. Harlow sent one in from the right low at the near post. Too hot to handle for the keeper, Connor reacted 1st to smash home the equaliser. 1-1 HT.
In the 2nd Gary adjusted well to sweep up any danger. We pressed high. Connor attacked the left and Marley raised his energy to cause them problems. It was then Marley who played a nice ball to Alex who finished well in the bottom corner. 2-1. The game soon became stretched with good chances at both ends but spells of sustained pressure from both sides made this one entertaining though. A throw-in in our own half was quickly pounced on and once again Ballyclare used their pace to break through midfield and equalise. They fnished stronger and it took a great reflex save from Jake to deny them a winner. Could've went either way, a draw maybe the fairer result. 2-2 FT.
Impressive work rate from all 11 boys & MOTM to Harlow; great 1st half, energy and positive effect on game throughout. A special thanks to the support from DDJ Handywork who sponsored the matchball
