Double Delight For 19s on New Years Day!
Carniny U19s travelled to Belfast on New Year's Day with the aim of completing a South Belfast Youth League Supplementary League and Cup Double. Standing in their way were Carnmoney Colts. Carniny had to shuffle the pack for the Cup Final with a few players injured and unavailable, with some playing in unfamiliar positions. Despite this the reds started the brighter of the two and took the game to Carnmoney in the early stages, with Mcatamney and Martin on the flanks working well going forward and White and Glass causing problems at the head of the attack. It was Carniny who broke the deadlock a minute before half time when Noah Scullion pounced on a loose ball inside the box and drilled home to give the Colts keeper no chance. Any attacks from Carnmoney had been dealt with well by the defence of Dael, Duddy and Bell protecting keeper Pescaru.
Into the second half and Carnmoney came into the game well and we're rewarded when a parried shot fell to a Colts striker who finished from close range on the follow up. This buoyed Carnmoney but the excellent pressing by the whole team thwarted any further attacks. Determined to get back ahead in the game the Carniny midfield of Peacock, Jess and Scullion were working hard to control the game . Ten minutes from time Alex Dael rose highest at a corner and headed home to send Carniny ahead again. The wee reds were in form now and a well slotted pass from Peacock set Glass through on goal who was forced wide and expertly slotted past the keeper from a narrow angle to give a 3-1 lead. With five minutes to the final whistle Carniny saw the game out to secure a League and Cup Double. A great team performance with all players giving no less than 100%.
