SENIORS TOPPLE LEAGUE LEADERS

This game was set to be an interesting match up with both teams vying for top spot in division two. Carniny were on the front foot in the opening minutes of this game and three minutes in John Costello had a good chance when the ball came to him from across the box, however the well hit shot went wide of the target. The game settled down then as Raceview came back at the home side and forced a couple of corners, which were dealt with by the Carniny defence. The reds had a chance of their own from a corner when a cross found Lloyd White who saw his header bounce off the cross bar. There was little between the two teams as the half wore on, with Jake Armstrong for Carniny having a chance on the half hour mark when he burst into the box with his shot skimming the post as it went wide. Three minutes from the break Peter Adams raced into the box for Carniny only to be brought down by Alex Dael, with Adams making no mistake from the resultant spot kick. Raceview were straight on the attack after this and saw Matthew Boyd turn his marker to get a shot off that looked set to be an equalizer only for McKillop to pull off a super save to deny Raceview their goal. 1-0 to Carniny at the break.

Into the second half and Carniny started to surge forward for a few attacks, but the Raceview defence did well working their back line, with several attacks resulting in offside decisions. Carniny did add to their tally though after a free kick found Dean Wright who fed the ball into Adams who drove the ball low into the net for his and Carniny's second of the day. After the goal Raceview came into the game pressing forward earning themselves a few corners and free kicks, but Carniny were resolute in their defence. Raceview had an opportunity on 75 mins with Matthew Boyd stepping up to take a free kick a yard outside the Carniny box, but it was driven into the Carniny wall and away. Three minutes later Carniny Lee McCallion played Sean Byrne down the wing who lofted a ball over the Raceview defence to Dean Wright, who in turn neatly lobbed Kerr in the Raceview goal to make it 3-0. Raceview continued to press after this goal and saw a couple of chances from Matthew Logan go close and got a late consolation goal through Alex Dael from close range inside a crowded box on 89 mins. There were no further goal with Carniny taking a 3-0 win.
