SENIORS PROGRESS TO SEMI FINALS

It was Randalstown who got off to the better start in this cup tie when only three minutes into the game they cut back a cross from the bye line and with Carniny guilty of not going with the midfield runners, Lee McDowell got on the end of the cut back and rolled the ball low into the Carniny net to make it 1-0 to the visitors. Carniny then went on to force a series of corners but failed to find the target. Randalstown went on to double their lead with Adam Millar given a free header at the front post from a corner and scored with a simple nod in. There was little in the game for the rest of the half with both teams having chances with Sean Byrne hitting the Randalstown crossbar minutes before halftime with the visitors taking their two goal lead into the break.

Less than a minute into the half the deficit was halved for Carniny as they went on an attack with a ball played into Dean Wright that slipped past him and a Randalstown player swung at the loose ball slicing into his own net. Ten mins later Randalstown had the chance to restore their two goal lead when the ball was crossed into the box from the right flank but David Johnston skied over the bar from close range. Carniny then went on to draw level when a well worked passage of play down the right flank from Mulholland, Logan and McCallion saw Logan whip the ball in finding Peter Adams, who made himself some space in the right hand side of the box and fired in a well taken shot to make it 2-2. The game came to life then with both teams trying to get the winner inside the 90 minutes and Carniny went close when Wright played in Peacock who saw his shot bounce off the cross bar on 84 mins. Carniny went on to get the crucial goal on 88 mins when a three-pass goal saw Mulholland pass out wide to White who played the ball in behind the visitors defence for Peacock to slot home low into the goal. As the game drew to a close White himself got on the scoresheet when Wright took the opportunity to beat his defenders after being pinned into the corner to work himself free and cut a cross back for White who calmly slotted home to put the game out of reach for the visitors.
