Both teams started brightly in this Junior Cup match with no teams dominating in the first minutes of the game. It was Carniny who broke the deadlock 10 mins in when some sloppy passing from the Holywood defence saw John Costello capitalise as he pressed forward winning the ball and then went on to beat another defender and calmly slot past the keeper. Four minutes later Holywood were back on level terms when their number 6 hit a well struck shot from outside the box which deflected off a Carniny defender, putting it out of reach of McKillop in the Carniny Goal. The rest of the half was a fairly even affair between both teams, with the score still 1-1 at the break.

The second half saw much of the same, but Carniny took the lead again on the hour mark when a Benji Agnew corner found Matthew McComb at the back post, who headed towards the Holywood goal, only to see the keeper palm the ball out for Dean Wright to poke home from close range. Holywood pressed towards the end of the half to try and get the equaliser, with Carniny sitting back a little but the Ballymena men held on to secure the win and earn a place in the hat for the 3rd rnd draw.
