Carniny were on the front foot in this cup tie right from the whistle and kept the pressure on for the first ten minutes of the game. After that it was a fairly even affair. Minutes from half time Carniny conceded a free kick just outside the box and were punished when Devlin from Towers fired the ball low into the Carniny keepers left hand side to give the Towers the lead at the interval.
Carniny came out better in the second half and were rewarded when Aaron Johnston played Peter Adams in, who went on to slot past the keeper scoring on his competitive debut on 49 mins. Seven mins later Adams turned provider when he played the ball into Sean Byrne, who swivelled and netted to see Carniny edge ahead at 2-1. Seven Towers weren't about to give up and Ryan Walsh who proved to be a handful all game, glanced in a header from a free kick on 63 mins to level the scores. Both teams had chances for the remainder of the game with both teams failing to convert and took the tie into extra time which also saw no further goals resulting in a penalty shoot out.
Carniny's five spot kick takers, Armstrong, Stevenson, Agnew, Adams and Wright all put their spot kicks away with McKillough the difference in the shoot out saving McCaughern's spot kick to see Carniny progress.
