Carniny U13 1-3 Glentoran Women
Our under 13 team lost 3-1 to Glentoran Women on Friday night at the Hammer Sports complex. The team was missing a few players but all the boys and Lily from our girls’ under 14 team put in a creditable performance. Glentoran had a strong side and Carniny players were outmuscled in challenges on occasion. They also had good pace on the wings and Glentoran’s two first half goals came from breaks down the wing. Jamie made some good saves in nets and John and PK were solid in defence. Robbie was all over the midfield making strong challenges. The score was 2-0 at half time but Carniny were well in the game.
The second half saw an early setback when the defence failed to clear the ball from a corner and Glentoran scored a third from a high shot. The team didn’t give up however and continued to scrap for every ball. They pulled a goal back through a good run and shot from Harry. This gave the players more fight and they pushed for a second goal, but it didn’t come. The team has one game left before they get a well-earned break. This has been a difficult season but with the likelihood of a drop to a lower section next year the team should be at a more suitable level.
