U13 MATCH REPORT

SBYL Knockout Cup – Quarter Final - Saturday

The under 13s lost 2-0 to Ards Rangers in their section of the SBYL cup on Saturday morning. The teams met in the league earlier in the season and Ards won easily but this was a different game with Carniny fighting for every ball right to the end. Missing a few players the boys got off to a shaky start and went behind to a shot from the edge of the box which flew high into the net. Ards were playing some good passing football, but Carniny were closing down and tackling hard to disrupt them. Ards went two up when a defender was caught in possession in the box and this time a low shot into the corner left Jamie stranded. Rhys hit a shot from distance which looked as if it might drift in over their keeper, but he just managed to palm it away.

At 2-0 the heads could have gone down, but Carniny battled back in the second half and had the better of the half overall. They just couldn’t put away any of the chances they created. Towards the end of the game Carniny had Ards pinned back and Harry hit the post with a shot from inside the area but that was as close as they came to scoring. John and Robbie had outstanding games in defence and midfield and all the rest of the team played well to push a good side all the way.
