Carniny U13 0-3 Shankill Juniors
SBYL – Mallusk – Sat 9th
Carniny under 13s lost 3-0 to Shankill Juniors at Mallusk on Saturday but the result doesn’t reflect the real story of the game. Carniny were always in with a chance of getting something from the match. Shankill had taken the lead when a ball broke to a Shankill forward on the edge of the eighteen-yard area. He was able to beat Jamie from close range. Carniny didn’t let the heads go down and played some good passing football through Robbie and Luke to get back in the game. Chances however were few and far between. The score was 1-0 at halftime and Carniny came out strongly in the second half. John was having a great game in defence mopping up any loose balls and pushing forward. Shankill’s second goal came against the run of play and had more than a hint of offside when Shankill’s number nine found himself unmarked in the penalty area and slotted home past Jamie. Carniny did create a few chances in the second half through Jake and Harley but weren’t able to trouble the Shankill keeper. Shankill’s third goal came from the penalty spot following a strong challenge from Andrew. The penalty was converted and that was the last kick of the game. All in all, one of the better performances by the boys and something for the team to build on.
