13s LOSE OUT TO LATE GOAL

Carniny’s under 13 team lost 3-2 to Crumlin Utd in an exciting match at the Showgrounds 3G pitch on Friday evening.
Both teams battled hard to create chances and there were few clear-cut opportunities early on. John was having his usual steady game in defence alongside Ben. Both keepers were called to make good saves but it was only shortly before the break that Crumlin took the lead with a shot which gave Jamie no chance.

The second half began well for Carniny with Jake, Robbie and Leo making dangerous runs in attack. It was Crumlin however who extended their lead when the Carniny defence failed to clear. The ball deflected to a Crumlin striker who slotted home from the edge of the box. Rather than giving up this seemed to encourage Carniny and they got a goal back from a good set-piece. Ben chipped a free kick over the Crumlin defence and Leo ran on to slot the ball past the keeper. Carniny now stepped up their attacks and pulled level from a corner. Jake crossed the ball into the box and from close range Robbie headed in to deservedly grab an equaliser. The two teams were still going for the win but rather fortunately it was Crumlin who scored right at the death. Carniny failed to clear a corner and the ball broke to the edge of the eighteen where a Crumlin player mishit his shot. The ball looped into the air and drifted into the top corner of the net giving Jamie no chance. It was a battling performance by the boys who deserved something from the game.
